Resistance Wires Ltd – The Company

Resistance Wires Ltd is a UK based manufacturer of ferrous, non-ferrous high performing electrical resistance wire. We can offer both small and large quantities of speciality wire for a range of industries and requirements including electrical, electronic and industrial applications. We offer this manufacturing service to a worldwide audience.

Established for over 40 years, we are re-known for our supply of specialist high quality copper, copper alloys and a range of other materials meeting the most demanding of applications in terms of quality, varying size and material requirements.

We have the unique offering of producing the highest quality performance alloy resistance wires demanded by our customers.

Our continuous commitment to quality and performance gives our customers the satisfaction of knowing that they are getting the best engineered quality materials that they specify on time every time at the best possible price.

Copper Alloys - Copper Nickel Alloys

Also known as cupro-nickels, they have compositions from 10% nickel to 45% nickel. There are a large range of alloys with varying characteristics, which are therefore suitable for varying applications.

Resistance Wires Ltd can supply copper, nickel and zinc resistance alloy wire (that contains no silver). They have applications in electrical contacts, gift and tableware’s, mechanical connectors, switches, sensing equipment and a range of other commercial applications including condensers, marine and automotive.

As a world leader in the supply of resistance wire for a range of industries, we can offer a range of drawn wire shaped to the customer’s specification. We are a privately owned company based in the UK and deal with customers on an international basis.

Since 1959 we have manufactured high performance resistance wires for supply to a range of industries including manufacturing and engineering, motor and processing trades, gas, oil and chemical processing and aerospace industries both in the UK and abroad.

  • RW 80 (80/20 Nickel Chrome)
A Nichrome Alloy typically used for high temperature resistance heating at operating temperatures up to 1200 o C. It is particularly relevant where there fluctuations in heating and cooling temperatures. Applications of this resistance wire include industrial and domestic heating elements and wire wound resistors and potentiometers, also used as a hot wire to cut eps or epp foams and as heat sealing elements in bag closing machines.
  • RW60 (60/16 Nickel Chrome)
A Nicrome alloy used in heating elements up to a temperature of 1100 o C, it has good resistance to corrosion. Applications of this resistance wire include all types of industrial and domestic heating elements, also used in impulse sealing machines.
  • RW 30 (30/20 Nickel Chrome)
A NiCr alloy used in domestic heating elements to a temperature of 1050 o C, it is extremely resistant to scaling at high temperatures and has high temperature strength. Applications of this resistance wire include furnace components and electric elements for fan and convector heaters.
  • RW 41 (Nickel Chrome Cobalt Molybdenum)
A Nickel based high strength alloy resistant to oxidisation , it has an operating temperature of 970 o C. Applications of this resistance wire include hot wire cutting of expanded polystyrene and polyethylene foam where more aggressive production methods are being used.
  • RW 45 (Nickel Copper)
A copper – nickel alloy, also known universally as Constantan, with an operating temperature of 400 o C. It has a medium range electrical resistivity and negligible temperature coefficient , it is easily soldered and welded and has good resistance to atmospheric corrosion. Applications of this resistance wire include wire wound resistors, thermocouples, temperature stable potentiometers and strain gauges.
  • RW 125 (Iron Chrome Aluminium)
    An
ICA alloy with medium high resistivity, similar properties to RW135. Applications of this resistance wire include domestic appliance heating elements.
  • RW 135 (Iron Chrome Aluminium)
A FeCrAl alloy with high resistivity and low density for use at temperatures up to 1250 o C. Cold working is inferior to nickel-chrome alloys.
Applications include heating elements for domestic appliances and silica glass tubes.
  • RW 145
    An
ICA based alloy for temperatures up to 1350 o C with a high resistivity and low density. This resistance wire is suitablefor high temperature heating elements.
  • RW 155
A FeCrAl based alloy for temperatures up to 1400 o C with a high resistivity and low density. This resistance wire is suitable for high temperature heating elements.
